Colorful Inauguration at Beach Road
The much awaited Visakha Utsav was inaugurated on Sunday evening with pomp and a mosaic of folk, traditional and a promise of developing Visakhapatnam into a city of international repute. The colorful inauguration on the Beach Road saw the Savara Dhimsa and Dhimsa tribal dances view for attention with the Seva Garidi, a folk art in praise of the presiding deity of the Simhachalam temple and a traditional Maharastra performance. The Navy contributed its bit with a Fly Past by two helicopters. A large number of tableaux highlighted the development programmes of the Rajasekhara Reddy Government. An impressive display of fireworks lit up the sky providing a fitting finale to the inaugural.
At the brief inaugural meeting at the Dronamraju Pranganam on the RK Beach, Minister for Roads and Buildings Jakkampudi Ramamohana Rao who declared open the festival said that in the next two or three years, the Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhara Reddy would put Visakhapatnam on the international map. He said the Prime Minister would soon visit the city to launch work on the expansion of the Steel Plant at an estimated cost of Rs.8000 crores. Minister for Commercial Taxes, Konathala Ramakrishna in his presidential address said that the festival was mainly intended to help the latent talent of artists. Former Chief Minister and MP N.Janardhana Reddy said that the city would soon get another oil refinery. District Collector, Praveen Prakash reminded people that the utsav was being celebrated with the tax payer’s money and appealed to them to make it a success.
