Smuggling on raise in the area
On 7.3.2003 at 04.30 hrs. Railway HC 239, R.V.Hanumantha Rao spotted at Anakapalli R.S., a passenger with two suitcases and three air bags boarding a general compartment in the Tirupathi-Howrah Express. On suspicion, the suitcase and the air bags were searched. There in was found 80 Kg. Of Cannabis Inidca (Ganja). The passenger disclosed his as Gollavilli Demudu S/o Konda babu, 40, Kapu, Bailapudi vil., Cheedikada mandall, Visakhapatnam district. He was arrested and the contraband seized in Cr.No.34/03 u/s 8(c) r/w 20(b) N.D.P.S. act of R.P.Stat ion, Tuni. After investgation, the accused was charge sheeted in the court of Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sri B.Sivasankar Rao Vijayawada. The trial was conplected while on bail, the accused absconded during the argument stage. In absentia the accused was conviented on 2-11-04 sentenced to 15 years R .I. and a fine of Rs. One lakh in default two years R.I. The accused continued to be a fugitive from Justice. On the drive instituted by Sri R.B.Nayak, Suptd. of Rly. Police, Vijayawada and the measures devised by the D.S .R.P., Visakhapatnam Sri K.Jagga Rao alongwith the Inspector of Rly. Police, Visakhapatnam Sri V. Suresh Babu, Sri B.Cb.Branmaian RPSI, Tuni R.P.Station on a tip of from the network of informants, cracked down on the absconder at his village and arrested him on 6-01-06. He bung produced in the court undergo the sentence.
The said Bailapudi village has become a centre of drug smuggling as confirmed by two more arrests of the village with contraband in their exclusivepossessiom. The said conviction should serve as a lesson and act as cdeterant to and wean the villagers indulging in such criminal activities. Possession and transportof druge is a serious offence meriting severs sentence of imprisonment as the evident from above instance. It is also abviuous that offenders cannot evade the law and cheat Justice for long and will have to expiate their crimes.
