The Andhra Pradesh Revenue Services Association has chalked out an agitation plan and if necessary, in a strike from the midnight of February 7 to press its demands, the main being appointment of revenue secretaries at village level. A decision to this effect was taken by its State executive which met at Hyderabad last moth. Beginning with the agitational programme with lack badges and holding lunch hour demonstrations, the protest comprises regional level conventions, work to rule and dharnas outside Collectorate.
Association's State Vice-President ID Gandhi, District Unit President T.Govardhana Rao and secretary NSN Swamy told reporters on Tuesday that 80 per cent of the work in villages pertained to Revenue. Revenue officials were facing problems in acquisition of land for projects and land distribution programmes though a Cabinet sub committee had been appointed, till now it had not held any discussions on the issue. The leaders also wanted the 200 MRO posts filled through a departmental promotion committee in every September. Mr.Swamy said that since Visakhapatnam had become centre for several examinations being held almost every week, a separate section should be created to handle it.
