Alumina refinery and aluminimum smelter to come near Sabbavaram
Jindal South West Aluminium Limited (JSWAL) will located its Rs.9000 crores alumina refinery and aluminimum smelter near Sabbavaram in Visakhapatnam district. The State Government has agreed in principle to allot 4000 acres, half of it revenue land to JSWAL, Company Director (business development) Anumay Kumar told media on Wednesday. He said that during the first phase, the company will invest Rs.9000 crores on establishing the 1.4 million tone alumina refinery and 0.25 tonne aluminum smelter and in second phase, the capacity will be doubled.
He said that Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh Government for the Greenfield project had been signed on July 1, 2005. As per the MoU, the project would be completed within three years of securing all clearances. Bauxite mining would be carried out by the Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC) and will be sold to Jindal.
