Against increase in FDI limit
The proposed hike in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in insurance sector was opposed by participants in a seminar on ‘FDI in Insurance’ at the LIC building on Wednesday. A resolution was adopted to this effect and the participants noted that the FDI limit was proposed to be hiked to 49 per cent from 26 percent due to pressure from foreign insurance lobby and even the US and UK Ambassadors were interfering in the matter and pressured the Government to increase the limit.
Former Energy Secretary EAS Sarma narrated his experience as to how the Government squandered public funds. He said that the private and foreign companies took only profits without accepting any social responsibility.
