Chief of Naval Staff Arun Prakash - Governor, CM to arrive on Saturday
Chief of Naval Staff Arun Prakash who is in Vizag to ensure that all the arrangements for the President's Fleet Review that begins on February 12, 2006 said that Visakhapatnam was picked up for the program in view of the Government's focus on the eastern sea board since it plays a vital role for the country's economic, political and defence sectors. He inspected the guard of honor on arrival at INS Dega. 67 ships of which 41 anchored off the coast 3 submarines and 41 aircrafts would be participating in the fleet review program.
President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam will visit Vizag in a special IAF aircraft which will land at INS Dega at 4:00 PM on Saturday. The president had a hectic schedule from his day of his arrival. Meanwhile, Governor of Andhra Pradesh Rameshwar Thakur, Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy and others will be in the city today. Amongst others who will be in the city in the next few days are Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Minister of State for Defence MM Pallam Raju, Lt Governors of Pondicherry and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Many other Union Ministers are also expected to be in Vizag to witness the Fleet Review program and the prowess demonstration. Ambassadors of Russia and South Africa will also be witnessing the review and prowess demonstration.
