City vows to fight AIDS scourge
Seminars on AIDS were conducted under the aegis of Medical and Health department while college and school students took out rallies to educate people on the dreaded disease to mark the World Aids Day on Friday. AP State AIDS Control Society organized a rally from Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation (GVMC) office to Allipuram. The GVMC Chief Medical Officer M. Satyanarayana Raju explained the cause and consequences of the AIDS to participants.
The Police department observed the World Aids Day at the Armed Reserved Grounds near Kailasagiri. Visakha Range Inspector General of Police BL Meena, Superintendent of Police JG Murali, District AIDS control nodal officer P. Rajendra Prasad and Para medical officer AK Lingeswararao suggested that one should desist from indulging in irresponsible sexual behaviour.
The students of Theatre of Arts of Andhra University staged a street play in front of the Central Administrative Office. The Vice Chancellor of AU L. Venugopal Reddy and Registrar P. Vijaya Prakash called on the student community to contribute their mite to check the menace. Many educational institutions and NGOs organizations observed the day.
