Visakhapatnam, December 30, 2006

Steel production in the country to cross 100M by 2020

The Chairman and Managing Director of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Y. Siva Sagar Rao while releasing the New Year Calendar on Saturday said that the National Policy envisaged steel production of 110 million tons by 2020. He said that the present per capita consumption of steel was around 45 kilos and that in rural areas was till only 2 kilos per person.

Seventy percent of population was located in rural areas, steel consumption has to be promoted in those areas. He said VSP is planning to provide steel in rural areas at prices on par with that in the nearest metro city. Top officials of the VSP participated in the function.
