Director of Public Libraries says Manuscripts have to be transformed into CDs

After visiting the District Central Library on Saturday, the Director of Public Libraries D. Ravindranath, speaking to media, said that modernizing and functioning of libraries is the top priority for the Directorate. He said that the necessary instructions have been given to the Chairman and Secretaries of District Libraries and Branch Libraries to take necessary steps in this direction.

As a part of the modernization plan, manuscripts and 50,000-odd books had been transformed into Compact Disks (CDs) through Universal Digital Libraries and any one can view these rare scripts on the website of the Directorate, he said. He further added that efforts are being made to film palm leave manuscripts and scan books written before 1945 and indicated that there were plans to set up full-fledged Internet Centres at the district centres.
