Speedy disposal of rape cases

Nirmal Venkatesh, member of the National Commission for Women said that setting up of fast track courts for completion of trial of rape cases in a month. She said that owing to delay in the trial witnesses were turning hostile. Speaking to media on Sunday that the Commission had been urging a review of the laws related to rape including a rigorous punishment and strict implementation of non-bailable sections.

She said a proposal envisaging rehabilitation of rape victims was submitted to the Supreme Court and the Union Government and recommended payment ranging from Rs. 2 lakhs to Rs. 5 lakhs.
