The Feast of the immaculate conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary took place at Visakhapuri Mary Matha Shrine of Ross Hills on Friday.
Thousands of devotees from various parts of coastal Andhra districts visited the Hill and offered prayers to Virgin Mary. The festival is about remembering the legend that God preserved the Virgin Mary from the original sin from the moment she was conceived. Special prayers began on November 29 prior to the fest of the Immaculate Conception.
Archbishop of Visakhapatnam Rev K. Maria Das conducted solemn pontifical high mass at the grotto. The procession to the Rose Hills began at 1.45pm from St. Aloysius’ high school and nearly one lakh devotees participated in the procession. The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) made special arrangements of buses to the Ross Hill for the festival. Police personnel were drafted for security arrangements.
