RINL bags this award for the seventh consecutive year
The Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) has been awarded the National Energy Conservation Award for 2006, first prize in the integrated Steel Plant sector. RNIL Chairman and Managing Director, Y. Siva Sagar Rao received the award from the Union Minister of Power, Sushil Kumar Shinde at a function held on Thursday at New Delhi.
The RINL has created an enabling environment for energy efficiency at work place by imparting continuous training programmes on energy conservation and implemented the projects through quality circles, suggestion schemes and quality improvement projects. It has also deployed nearly 80 energy auditors with the help of National Productivity Council for the promotion of energy conservation and undertaking periodical energy audits.
RINL has bagged this award for the seventh consecutive time since 2000, the only integrated Steel Plant in the country. Sources reveal that Energy conservation efforts resulted in savings amounting to Rs. 54 crores in 2005-06 with an investment of only Rs. 6.8 crores in 44 projects. In the last three years, nearly Rs. 160 crores were saved due to the implementation of around 150 energy projects with an investment of nearly 15 crores.
