Raghavulu threatens intensified agitation
The CPM State secretary BV Raghavulu expressed strong objection to the alumina refinery project proposed to be set up at Sabbavaram mandal and threatened that his party would intensify the agitation if the Government goes ahead with the project in blatant disregard of the consequences to environment and livelihoods of the tribal people who would be displaced.
Speaking to media persons at Vangali village in Sabbavaram on Friday, he said that the government should first sort out the issues pertaining o rehabilitation and compensation to be paid to project affected people. He alleged that the government lacked clarity on land acquisition.
He further said that the government first said that 4000 acres would be acquired and later brought it down to 1600 acres. Apart from the air pollution that would be caused by the refinery, there would be ground water contamination which would have serious effect on the people’s health. He pledged the support to the people in this regard.
