Hallmarking of gold Jewellery stressed
According to TB Narayanan, director, Bureau of Indian Standards, Southern Regional Office speaking at an awareness programme on ‘Hallmarking of gold and silver Jewellery’ said that the Government of India has decided to make hallmarking of gold Jewellery mandatory from January 1, 2008. The Bureau of Indian Standards, Visakhapatnam Branch office on Sunday, organized the awareness programme.
He explained the genesis of the hallmarking scheme, its recent simplification and rationalization and its benefits and the mode of redress of grievances in case of complaints against hallmarked Jewellery. MK Roy, Head of the branch said that the main objective of the programme was to make jewelers, traders and consumers of gold and silver Jewellery aware of the hallmarking scheme and its benefits.
