Relatives accused negligence of the doctors
In a road accident near Kothavalasa in Vizianagaram district in the early hours on Sunday, K Srinivas sustained serious head injuries was admitted in to King George Hospital (KGH). The relatives of the victim approached the Casualty Medical Officer (CMD) Bangaraiah who referred the patient to the Neurosurgery department.
The CMO asked the relatives of Srinivas to take the patient to a private hospital as the CT scan had to be done to detect a clot in his brain. He was brought back to the KGH after scanning. He died before the duty doctors could operate on him. The relatives of the victim alleged that he should have survived had the doctors been given medical care at the KGH itself. They also alleged that the CMO demanded bribe from the family members.
On knowing the death of Srinivas, the relatives beat up the doctor and damaged the furniture. Tension prevailed at the KGH. The hospital authorities have requisitioned the help of police. The Superintendent of King George Hospital maintained that the operation could not be done unless the CT scan has to be done to diagnose the case. The Superintendent maintained that the CT scan at the KGH was not working and as a result, the CMD had referred to a private hospital. The doctors of the KGH brought the emergency services to a halt and threatened to go on strike if action is not being done against those responsible for the assault on the CMD.
