Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Dr.Rao said thirty seven percent of the notified cases are from people aged below 30 particularly children in 12-19 years of age group who are participating in paid sex are highly prone to the disease.
He said that a survey done in Devarapalli mandal of the district recently found that several children in rural areas were caught in the vicious circle of paid and unprotected sex. They were either forced into the activity or sexually perverted due to their lifestyle. Thirty six children were questioned based on the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) said at least five of them were having sexual intercourse with 15 to 20 partners each in a week. He said uncontrolled growth will have disastrous consequences in future unless remedial action was taken by the Government to bring behavioral changes rather than confining to anti retrovial therapy.
