Government orders probe
Medical services at the King George Hospital (KGH) were paralyzed due to the strike to protest against the attack on the Causality Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Bangaraiah by the relatives of the recently died Srinivas with severed head injuries. Four persons have died at the hospital since then due to lack of emergency medical care by the striking doctors. A four-day old baby is one amongst the dead.
In support of the attacked medical doctor, all Government doctors through out the State would be joining strike from Tuesday. They termed the incident as an insult to the medical profession and say that doctors resolved to get justice done. They demanded that all those responsible for the incident should be taken to task. The negotiations which took place for more than two hours in the presence of Director of Medical Education (DME) Venkateswara Rao, Hospital Superintendent T.Sivaraju and Police Commissioner VSK Kaumudi, doctors refused to restore even emergency services till the culprits were arrested.
Commissioner of Police, VSK Kaumudi said that the police arrested one person who involved in the attack on the duty doctor on the charges of assaulting CMO and instigating the others. He said efforts are on to arrest the rest in due course. He also said additional security would be provided on the premises of KGH including posting of a Police Officer permanently at the KGH. Meanwhile, the Minister for Health, K.Rosaiah said that the Government had ordered an inquiry into the alleged negligence of doctors and their being bashed by the relatives of a patient at the KGH at Visakhapatnam and action would be initiated against those responsible.
