IInd Hobie 16 National Championships at Rushikonda Beach

Indian Team for Asian Games to be selected

The picturesque Rushikonda Beach was chosen as the venue for the Second edition of the Hobie 16 National Championships. It may be recalled the splendid Visakhapatnam Beach already played the venue for the First National Hobie 16 Sailing Championships last year as well as the Yatching Events for the 2002 National Games. Visakhapatnam also is the venue for an open competition for the Hobie 16 class in 2004 in which teams from the United States and Australia participated. The event also featured a physically challenged player from Chennai who participated at the events. The white sand beaches of the Rushikonda, also popular as the Sugar Loaf Hill are again getting ready for the Second Hobie 16 National Championships to be held from April 30 to May 6, 2006.

The organizer of the events, the Artillery Water Sport, Hyderabad said that 16 teams have already confirmed their participation. The teams include Ram Kumar, T Siva, Naresh Yadav, B Barik, Gautama Dutta, Ayaz Shaikh, Madhu and Yuvaraj Singh.

The Secretary of the National Hobie Class Association said that the Indian team for the upcoming Asian Games will also be drawn as a part of the championships. There will be a coaching camp at the SAAP Boat Yard, Rushikonda Beach from May 9 to 24, 2006.
