The Department of Psychology and Parapsychology in Andhra University will organize an International Conference on Coping with Chronic Diseases on Friday and Saturday. The conference would focus on strategies involved in assisting the chronically ill patient cope with the non terminal disease and life effectively according to the ICCCD Director K.Madhu. Chronic diseases maybe terminal like cancer, AIDS etc., or non terminal like diabetes, arthritis and asthma.
The strategies, based on the psycho biosocial model of health and disease and adapted to the Indian conditions would examine the role of the physician, family members of the patient, particularly spouse in providing assistance in coping effectively with the disease. Participants in the conference included physicians and psychologists from UK, US and different states of India and specialists in the city. Details can be had from him on phone 2844435.
