Leaders of all party trade unions on Wednesday described the proposed strike on Thursday as one aimed at protecting the public sector in general and Visakhapatnam Steel Plant in particular and gave a call to all workers to participate in it. Speaking a large gathering of workers at the Ukku Training Centre junction gate meeting on Wednesday, CITU general secretary N.Rama Rao said that there was no alternative except to go on strike to oppose the Government’s disinvestments and VR schemes in the Steel Plant.
Hindu Mazdoor Sabha general secretary P.Appala Reddy appealed to workers to make a strike, being observed in response to a call jointly given by Central Trade unions, people’s organizations and employees’ particularly in the Steel Plant. DITU leader Suresh Babu said that the Government polices had failed to provide social justice and therefore, the strike was inevitable while CITU president who presided said that the workers had decided to bring more pressure on the Government.
