The Managing Trustee of Diwaliben Mohanlal Mehta Charitable Trust, Mafatlal Mohanlal Mehta, popularly known as Maft Kaka who was instrumental in rehabilitation of polio patients on a large scale in the country died due to cardiac arrest in Mumbai on Tuesday. The managing director of the PREMA Hospital, SV Adinarayanarao while mourning the death of Maft Kaka said that it was a great loss to the polio patients in particular.
Maft Kaka was a noted diamond merchant and received lifetime achievement award in the diamond business. He extended huge help to the polio rehabilitation programme. He had donated Rs.25 lakhs for the expansion of the RCD Hospital in Visakhapatnam and from 1992 to 1977, extended financial help of Rs.500 to every patient who had undergone polio correction surgery. He organized polio surgery camps in Gujarat and Mumbai and provided financial assistance to fifty thousand patients.
He donated through his trust huge quantity of material like Plaster of Paris, dressing material, splints, wheelchairs etc., He was instrumental in starting the PREMA Hospital in the city. Four hundred bends were donated by him to the hospital. He also donated an air-conditioned system to the KGH\'s Blood Bank and dialysis room.
