Visakhapatnam, September 15 2005
The Indian National Trade Union Congress is not participating in the September 29 general strike sponsored by the left parties and its members will attend duties according to INTUC State General Secretary, KS Mohan Kumar. Speaking at a media conference with Visakha Steel Employees, he said that the call by the CITU was more political in nature and not intended to benefit workers. He commented that it had become a habit for the Left parties to call for a strike as pressure tactics to get more seats in an election.
Congress General Secretary, Manatri Rajasekhar said that the strike would not be a success without the support of the INTUC which alone secured social security benefits to workers and was not endeavoring to get Provident Fund and other facilities to those in the unorganized sector.
