The United Port and Dock Workers’ Union affiliated to the CITU will participate in the September 29 general strike opposing the UPA Government’s vigorous pursuit of the policies of the previous NDA thereby giving a go by to its promise of safeguarding the public sector and protecting the democratic rights of workers all over the country. Union Secretary VS Padmanabha Raju accused the UPA Government of allowing private and foreign investments in the key sectors of ports, Telecom, Defence, insurance, airports and coal and said that it would affect the economy and jeopardize national security.
Employees and officers numbering about 1000 belonging to various public and private sector banks in and around the city will take part in the nation wide strike on Thursday. The employees will gather at the SBI Main Branch at 10am and hold a demonstration opposing the merger and acquisition of public sector banks according to AIBOC president SN Sahu.
