A fact finding team which toured the rain hit fishing villages in north Andhra found the relief extended to the fishing community to be woefully inadequate. The team deputed by the Fishing Boat Workers’Union consisted of TK Rahman, M.Viduyadharan, K.Laksmi and Swati. The team said that fishermen of Paripetta in Vizianagaram district suffered heavy losses of fishing crafts and houses.
Nineteen houses were fully damaged and the village surpanch S.Kondadau told them that the revenue officials gave compensation of Rs.700 each to only three families. Mr.Rahman who is the executive member of National Fisher folks Forum said that in one of the villages, a fisherwoman died, as she could not be taken an auto rickshaw to a nearby hospital due to damage caused to the road.
