Visakhapatnam, November 2, 2005
The hilltop road between Visakhapatnam and Simhachalam has hit a roadblock with its safety and the rationale behind its necessity being questioned. The then Vice Chairman of VUDA, D.Srinivasulu was the brainchild of the original project plan to develop it on the lines of Tirupati-Tirumala ghat road at a cost of Rs.2.13 crores.
As a part of an agreement, VUDA which agreed to execute the project and extend technical support to the Simhachalam Devastanam that owns it, has already spent 25% of the total cost. The remaining cost of the two phase project would have been shared on a 50:25 ratio respectively by the devasthanam and funds released from former MP MVVS Murty’s MPLAD scheme. The Indian Road Congress and M/s Road Traffic Management – a consultant on transport have raised strong objections regarding the project on the safety.
