Visakhapatnam, November 2, 2005
The Commercial Tax Minister, Konathala Ramakrishna on Tuesday said that kharif loans to the tune of Rs.193 crores had been sanctioned to the farmers in Visakhapatnam district. Speaking at a function on the eve of Andhra Pradesh Formation Day celebrations at Collectorate, he said that free power at a cost of Rs.30 lakhs was being provided to 16,602 agricultural pump sets.
Water to cultivate an additional 26,657 acres would be supplied to farmers and the construction work was going on at a cost of Rs.61.35 crores on Pedderaju, Tajeru, Rangabolu, Urakagedda, Palagedda and Jammammgedda towards this. He also spoke on the construction of Polavaram canal, coastal corridor between Kakinada and Bheemunipatnam, expansion of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and companies being set up in the IT sector. Later he gave away cheques to the tune of Rs.1.1 crores sanctioned by the DRDA to members of women’s associations belonging to 13 mandals and also handed over implements worth Rs 1.76 lakhs sanctioned by the District Handicapped Development Corporation to 26 beneficiaries.
