Thousands participated in the Maharastra Mahotsav, placing of a staff to mark the beginning of celebrations of Margasira festival at Sri Kanakamahalakshmi temple on Saturday.

According to tradition, the preparations are for the Margasira masam festival, due next month, on Kartika Suddha Ekadasi day. Ganapati puja, navagraha puja, Akhanda deepam and ankuraropana programmes were conducted on the day. The temple will be brightly illuminated throughout the month during the festival.
