The police arrested about 50 women protesters on Tuesday when they tried to barge into the residence of the Municipal Commissioner, N.Srikanth, to submit a memorandum on the demolitions carried out in Siva Sankar colony near Tathichetlapalem. Though the displaced persons and the activists of the Mahila Jagruti Sangham squatted outside Municipal Commissioner's residence.
As the JMS president M.Lakshmi and others tried to gain entry into the residence, the police led by the Circle Inspectors V.Bhima Rao and S.Varada Raju bundled them into waiting vans. Ms.Lakshmi said despite a stay order by the High Court, in response to a petition filed by the Rajaka Sangham, the Municipal Corporation had demolished the dwellings without serving an eviction notice on Monday. She said that the JMS would file a contempt case against the Municipal Commissioner and others in the incident.
In this connection, the BJP city unit on Tuesday condemned the demolition of pucca houses at Siva Sankar Rajakula Colony by the Municipal Corporation without issue of prior notice and in violation of court orders.
