The Visakhapatnam Zone of Customs has recorded an increase in revenue by 35 per cent for the year 2004-05 as compared to the previous year.

According to the Chief Commissioner of Customs and Central Excise, TV Sairam, the revenue went up to Rs.434.65 crores up to June. He said that the Custom House was functioning in a transparent manner and the online filing of bills of entry and shipping bills was being promoted as it would save a lot of time of importers and exporters.

The Commissioner of Central Excise, SC Choudhry said that road shows organized in places like Nagapur, Raipur and Hyderabad had resulted in more exporters and importers using Visakhapatnam as a base.
