The two-day seminar conducted by Income Tax department on Tax Deduction at Source (TDS) and tax collection at source for the benefit of officers of the banks concluded on Friday.
Presiding over the seminar, the Commissioner of Income Tax, H.Srinivasulu, said that since banks had a major role in wealth generation and tax collection for the Government, they should comply with the provisions of IT Act.
He highlighted the changes made in respect of TDS and TCS in the Finance Acts of 2004-05 and 2005-2006 and reminded the banks that they had to file quarterly returns. The due date for submitting the statement for the first time is Friday but extended upto July 31. Managers and Asst.Managers of 170 bank branches attended the seminar. A brochure titled ‘TDS on Salaries – 2005-06’ was distributed to the participants.
