Volkswagen team did not speak to media
German automobile major Volkswagen AG will decide later this month to set up its Euro I billion car assembly unit at Visakhapatnam, Minister for Major Industries Botcha Satyanarayana said. He was speaking after a meeting with a team of officials from Valkswagen at the secretariat.
The Volkswagen team did not speak to media. The team made enquires about the tsunami threat from Satyanarayana and the Chief Minister whom it met separately. They reportedly enquired about the safety of the car unit from the tsunami threat since the project was located on the Bay of Bengal coast battered recently. The Chief Minister said that there was no threat to the unit which has been offered land opposite the Vizag Steel Plant.
Volkswagen India project team leader Helmuth Schuster and Chief Advisor Ashok Jain also discussed incentives to the car unit, land and other issues.
