An ultra filtration based sewage recycling system, the first of its kind in the State was inaugurated by the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant CMD Y Siva Sagar on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, he said the commissioning of the plant would help save one million gallons of water per day resulting in a savings of Rs.1.3 crores per year.
He said apart from savings to the Steel Plant, the project will contribute to environment by conservation of scarce resources. He complimented the Project Department for their efforts in commissioning the filtration plant. With the commissioning of the project, the specific water consumption of the plant which was at 2.76 cu m/ton of liquid steel in 2004-05.
The best in Indian steel Industry and one of the best in the world will come down to 2.3 cu m/TLS. The project costing Rs.5 crores, treats secondary treated sewage through tertiary clarifier, multi grade filters and ultra filtration with two point chlorination.
