Minister for Panchayat Raj and Endowments says Panchayat Elections to be held on Direct method

The forthcoming Panchayat elections will be conducted in direct method in June or July as per the schedule said the the Minister for Panchayat Raj and Endowments JC Diwakar Reddy said on Sunday to reporters. He said that there is no confusion over whether the panchayat elections would be conducted in direct method or indirect method and asserted that the elections would be held as per the existing direct method.

He assured security to the local body representatives of the Agency areas who were facing threats from naxals. On encroachments of endowment lands, the Minister said that a high level committee comprising legal experts and revenue officials was looking into the issue of regularization of the encroached lands. He said that the Government is ready to spend Rs.6 crores for the maintenance of small temples in the State.
