The JNTU Engineering College Vice-Principal EV Prasad said on Friday that there is a need for promoting the awareness and use of Open Source Software (Linux) systems. He said that both the Engineering Students and the Professionals community are to be exposed to them. He said that it is up to us to reap the advantages of Linux and other open source software.
Sri Prasad was speaking at the inaugural function of the three-day workshop on advanced UNIX programming being organized at the Gayatri Engineering College (GEC) in Madhurawada. Nearly two hundred professionals, some even from others states, have participated in the workshop.
The Programme coordinator and Head of the Computer Science Department NB Venkateswarlu said that the UNIX operating systems had gone through many changes since 1970 and that many variants of the operating system are now were available. Indo-Germen Institute of Advanced Technology Director PS Rao, Head of the IT Department of AU College of Engineering PS Avadhani and others spoke on the occasion.
