Gag Orders on Leader and Andhrak Jyothi newspapers withdrawn
The gag orders on Andhra Jyothi and Leader newspapers have been withdrawn by the district administration. The District Revenue Officer and Additional District Magistrate, in an order issued late on Saturday night informed the two newspapers by the RDO and Sub Divisional Magistrate under Section 1444 of Cr.P.C. preventing them from publishing news items had been withdrawn.
The Sub Divisional Magistrate's order was issued on December 6, sparkin off State wide protests by journalists along with protests by journalists along with political parties and people's organizaions and another order issued by the Additional District Magisrate on December 8 rescinding the SDM's order failed to completely satisfy the journalists community. The District Collector Praveen Prakash clarified that he had nothing personal against the media. He was responding to a plea by former Minister and Narsipatnam MLA Ch Ayyana Patrudu at ZP meeting on Saturday.
