Visakhapatnam, December 12, 2005
The Communist Party of India (M) has asked the AP Pollution Control Board to register a case against the management of NTPC Simhadri power plant.
CPI blames NTPC for causing groundwater and sound pollution in the villages adjoining Deepanjalinagar. During the padayatra from Vadechipurapalle and Devada, the 23rd day in which the party covered a distance of 600 km to highlight the public problems, CPI (M) leader and State CITU president Ch.Narsinga Rao said on Monday that dumping of waste generated from the sea water ash pond near Pitavanaipalem village had contained ground water in the neighborhood.
He said the pond had filled 900 acres near the village with fly ash. Due t use of salt water, nobody was coming forward to take the fly ash. He asked the APPCB to take stringent action against the NTPC Simhadri management. The padayatra evoked a good response and the project evacuees submitted several representations alleging lack of interest shown by NTPC management.
