History of Andhra is also history of Andhra University, a great institution which still retains it prime place as a centre of excellence in learning. This observation was made by the former Chairman of Bar Council of India, DV Subba rao at the 78th Foundation Day celebrations of the AU here on Monday. He was felicitated by the Vice Chancellor Y.C.Simhadri. Tracing its history, Mr.Subbaro said that the AU became a reality due to the desire and passionate urge of the Telugu People who wanted a university of their own as part of the Andhra renaissance movement and the progressive movement witnessed in the 1920s. As part of the Foundation Day celebration, Prof.Simhadri commissioned a modern electronic automatic exchange for university teachers, computers at the hostels of the AU College of Engineering and a fountain in the college premises. He laid the foundation stone for the AU main gate the first floor of the Ranjani Guest House and a dormitory atop the gymnasium.
