Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority

Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) is the Urban Development Authority for Visakhapatnam. VUDA is responsible for brining about a master plan for the Visakhapatnam district.

Objectives of VUDA

VUDA has constituted with the following objectives.

  • Preparation of Master Plan and ensuring development as envisaged in the same.
  • Co-ordination of development activities with various agencies and providing infrastructure facilities.
  • Formulation of projects in sectors and their implementation.
  • To regulate and control the development through statutory plans and other measures.

Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region (VMR)

VUDA has selected LEA Associates South Asia Private Limited and CEPT University, Ahmedabad, a consultant for preparation of the master plan for Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region (VMR) in December 2012. VUDA Vice-Chairman Kona Sasidhar said that VUDA was able to save a considerable amount of money through a tough negotiation. The final amount is Rs. 12.8 crore for the work which includes zoning, study of traffic, and land use.

10 bids were received for the master plan for VMR. Three out of the 10 were selected for the initial screening. One of the three bids has qualified in all aspects including technical and financial bids.

The proposal will be sent to the government for its approval, following which a GO will be issued. The work would take one-and-a-half years for the preparation of the master plan.

Multi-Level Parking

VUDA is making plans to construct a multi-level parking at Ramnagar. In December 2012, the board meeting has approved the plans of the multi-level parking. The parking will be a G+4 structure, where in the ground and first floor will be used for commercial use. The rest of the floors will accommodate 168 cars. The cost of the construction of the parking is estimated to be Rs. 11 crore.


On January 13, the AP State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has ordered VUDA to pay a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh towards compensation for mental agony in handing over a flat in its Harita housing project at Madhurawada and deliver possession of a HIG flat. Chavva Sheela Reddy of New Delhi filed the complaint before the commission which was admitted on July 1, 2013.
