On 28 December 2012, Andhra University paid tributes to Rabindranath Tagore to mark 102 years of National Anthem "Jana Gana Mana". University Registrar V Uma Maheswara Rao garlanded the bust of Rabindranath Tagore in Dr. VS Krishna Library building. Librarian G Babu Rao was also present.
On 9 January 2016, students of Andhra University staged a sit-in protest against the government demanding release of job notifications. The protest was held near VS Krishna Library of Andhra University.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for the "Center for Open Innovation" (CFOI) at Andhra University, which focuses on Smart Cities and entrepreneurship programmes. Later, the Chief Minister attended the MoU exchange programme held at the YVS Murthy Auditorium.
On 11 January, AU Vice-Chancellor Prof. GSN Raju inspected various departments of the Arts College and made several suggestions to the faculty. The University is gearing up to face the peer team of National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) from January 18 to 21.
On January 28, some students and faculty of Andhra University launched a relay hunger strike at the campus demanding justice with regard to the suicide of University of Hyderabad research scholar Rohit Vemula. Prof. Sharon Raju, a faculty member of Andhra University, demanded that the government sack UoH VC Prof. Appa Rao and Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya and Smriti Irani. There are some allegations against interim VC Dr. Vipin Srivastaka, he said.
Department of Journalism and Mass Communication
Andhra University Vice-Chancellor GSN Raju, on 13 January 2016, released a book 'Samajika' written by post-doctoral fellow of Department of Jouranlism and Mass communication of AU GKD Prasad. The book is compilation of essays on Jashua's literature issues concerning Dalits and Bahujans, role of Telugu periodicals in independence struggle, women in Telugu journalism, essays on Ambedkar and Jyotirao Phule etc.
