Miniter for Tourism Mr. Srinuvasa Yadav inaugurated the Visakha Utsav 2001 at the main venue of the Utsav in the sands of R K Beach. He said that the Andhra Pradesh Government is committed for the development of tourism in the state and that he will strive to make Vizag as good as Ooty or Kodaikanal. Mr. Ch Ayyana Patrudu, Minister for Forests, Mrs. Manikumari, Minister for Tribal Welfare, Mrs. Rajana Ramani, Mayor of VMC, Mr. MVVS Murthy, Mr. Ganta Srinuvasa Rao, MP's, Dr. P Varalakshmi, MLA, Mr. Sunil Sharma, District Collector, Dr. SA Rehaman, VUDA Chariman, Mr. SGK Kishore, VUDA VC, Mr. Sanjay Jaaju, Commissioner VMC, Mr. T Krishna Babu, Joint Collector, Commissioner of Police Mr. A K Khan and others were present at the inauguration function. MP Mr. MVVS Murthy said that th will be striving to put Visakhapatnam on the World Tourism map.
A Kuchupudi Dance entitled "Maa Telugu Talliki Mallepoodanda" was held at the main venue. "AAnandam Pondare… ede mana telugu saili.." and other dance performances attacked large crowds.
Minister for Tribal Welfare, Mr. Manikumari has declared the 'City Now and Then' Photo Exhibition open at the VUDA Children's Theater. Photographs depicting Vizag between the years 1963 and 2000 were a part of this exhibition.
Mr. MV Satyanarayana win the 50-km Kalinga Open Cycle Race in 42 minutes and 55 seconds for his trip between RK Beach and Bhemunipatnam.

A Special Sovereign on Visakha Utsav will be shortly released. The Sovereign, carrying complete information on Visakhapatnam and was designed by the Sovereign Committee of the Visakha Utsav headed by Acharya D Panduranga Rao of the Institute of Transport Management at Andhra University.

Preparations for the forthcoming 'Visakha Utsav' started
The Preparations for the forthcoming "Visakha Utsav" have been started. The State Minister for Forests Mr. Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu said that major public campaign is being launched in all major cities. The Governor of the State Dr. C Rangarajan will inaugurate the Utsav. He requested full cooperation from the public to make the event successful. He said that about 60 lakh rupees will be the expenditure for this year's utsav. Union Tourism Minister will be attending the closing function. The minister urged the Government for the successful conduct of the event.
District Collector Mr. Sunil Sharma said that a special guide on Visakhapatnam will be released during the Visakha Utsav period.
