He said that there were 10 Traffic Police Stations (excluding the 2 rural police stations at Parawada & Pendurthy) with a staff of 250+ Police and 100 to 120 Home Guards.

He said that steps will be taken to see that Authorities & Higher staff of the police would be spending more time on the road and see that Traffic in the city was under control. He said that Traffic regulation & Control was a high priority in the city.

He said that there were 80+ accidents happening in the district on an average and that about 50% of these were happening on the National Highway. Special Drive will be taken to catch motorists moving on the road without a valid driving license. He said that Students going to colleges in particular are moving rashly on roads and that many of them are under aged to drive a vehicles. He said that a year long drive will be taken to educate the public in regard to Traffic rules and regulations. He said that Basic Traffic Principles such as Left Hand Drive and Right Hand Pedestrian Walk have been frequently neglected by the public. Unlike the Traffic Safety Week Programme being conducted every year, the new programmes will be conducted more frequently. Six Colleges in the city were initially identified and that the students ( particularly NCC & NSS students ) will be given special training which includes public behavior on roads, traffic control and management and dealing with traffic etc.
